“It all began at the family dinner table…”
Work was often the subject of conversation, and the day’s activities were the latest news. We talked about the store: who shopped, what merchandise came in, and how the customers reacted to the new products.
As a teen, I enjoyed hearing the stories of our family-run clothing store, and I was interested in both the business and the fashion sides of the work. It was exciting and ever-changing.
After graduating from college, I began training at a large department store. At the time, I was still curious about menswear—and I missed the family business. I left the department store and came back to Philadelphia to complete my MBA and join my family at the shop.
During my thirty years in the family business, I learned many invaluable lessons. I saw the importance of customer relationships and how the customer came to rely on and trust the salespeople. I witnessed the significant role each team member had in helping with the customers’ needs and the power of excellent customer service.
Ah, and let’s not forget about the clothing! It was exciting to see the range of fashion in men’s clothing and sportswear and be the first to try new styles. The customers loved it, and soon the store expanded from 1100 square feet to a 7000 square-foot menswear emporium in center city Philadelphia.
As the storefront expanded, my passion for quality clothing and sportswear was also growing.
In the early 2000s, our custom clothing department was quickly gaining momentum. Customers wanted more than what they could get off-the-rack. They wanted high-quality, well-fitted clothing made of the finest materials. As my passion for menswear grew, it is understandable that all roads would lead to custom-made clothing and shirts.
In 2010 the Wayne Edwards Workshop concept was given birth to better serve clients interested in specialty clothing, custom fit to your unique build.
